For those new to MOD Moms or are interested in this event, every July we run a school
supply drive to support Crayons to Calculators. C2C receives almost 10,000 fully
filled backpacks every year! EVERY ONE OF THESE BACKPACKS stays right here in Boulder
Valley and St. Vrain Valley!
We are providing the backpacks for the Middle School and High School, which includes
Scientific Calculators and Binders.
Crayons to Calculators is a school-supply drive created to ensure that local students
head back to school with the tools they need to succeed.
Why we do it: There are more than 13,000 kids in Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley
school districts who qualify for free and reduced lunch-an indicator of poverty.
The cost of basic school supplies ($50-$70 per student), presents a financial burden
for many of these kids' families. Crayons to Calculators aims to cut that cost and
move one step closer to eliminating the achievement gap. Having the right school
supplies is a critical first step to help a student achieve higher literacy levels,
improve academic performance, and graduate. It also enables schools to operate more
Our goal: For the 2011-2012 school year, we hope to provide 8,000 students-pre-school
through high school-with new backpacks full of supplies.
Who are we? We're a collaborative partnership between five area nonprofits: Education
Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley, I Have a Dream Foundation, Impact on Education,
Sister Carmen Community Center, and Foothills United Way. Our beneficiaries are the
Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) and the St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD).

Mod Moms of Denver North collect funds for Superior family who lost home
Late last month, the Ullman family was met with a blanket of smoke when a fire started
in their Rock Creek home at 3929 South Torrey's Peak Drive in Superior.
Weeks later, Mod Moms of Denver North -- an organization founded by mothers for mothers
-- has wrapped "a warm blanket" around Cindy Ullman's family, she said Tuesday, Oct.
2, and she's grateful for it.
